What is our EBT Matching Program? For every dollar you spend buying EBT tokens at our Manager's Table, we give you $2 worth of tokens!! This program is underwritten by the generous support of our Sonoma Whole Foods Market. Currently there is no maximum limit on our matching program, unlike many other Farmers' Markets in the area. Our unique program is like a 50% discount on all the fresh produce and other eligible foods you can purchase at our Market!!! Definitely the best deal around!
How does EBT work at the Farmers' Market? At our Tuesday night Market, CalFresh clients use their EBT card to purchase $1 tokens at the Market Manager’s table that they then can use at any Farmers' Market vendor who offers eligible food items. Just like in a grocery store, EBT customers can only purchase produce and certain other food items, but NOT ready-to-eat foods like hot meals prepared by vendors at the Market, or any non-food items.
What is EBT? What most Americans call “food stamps” is also called SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) or in California, CalFresh. It is a U.S. Department of Agriculture program which offers nutrition assistance to millions of low-income Americans, many of whom are senior citizens on a limited fixed income, providing economic benefits to many communities. EBT stands for “Electronic Benefit Transfer,” and is similar to a debit card, enabling the SNAP beneficiary to easily purchase eligible healthy food items at grocery stores, as well as participating farmers' markets. Each month, based on family size and income, the client’s EBT card is credited with their monthly benefit amount, which the client can then spend during the month to purchase food for their family. Sonoma’s Tuesday night Farmers' Market on the Plaza is a participating market that allows CalFresh clients to use their EBT card at our market to purchase the very freshest, locally-grown produce.
